WEAVE® LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

The Weave® Leadership Development Programme (the ‘Programme”) was developed in response to requests from Weave® members for a leadership development experience suitable for their senior leaders. The Programme is open to the public and is designed to strengthen and grow the leadership capabilities of you as a senior leader and to ready you for the next phase of your leadership journey.

WHAT DOES THE PROGRAMME FOCUS ON?

The Programme will give you insights into your natural and work adapted leadership styles, and it will enable you to identify new ways to positively influence and grow yourself, your people, and your businesses, through adopting new leadership thinking and approaches.

Participants will strengthen and grow their leadership capabilities and knowledge to positively impact their influence as leaders within the businesses or organisations they work for.

The LDP is an approved programme under the Regional Business Partners grant and applicants may qualify for a subsidy of up to $5,000. For more information, please contact Melissa Gardiner:  melissa@weave.net.nz –  +64 22 684 7049

WHAT IS THE FORMAT OF THE PROGRAMME?

You will be part of a small group cohort with a maximum of 12 participants per group under the supervision of an experienced Leadership Development Group Chair (“LDG Chair”). The Programme commences with an opening afternoon session followed by a team dinner. The team then reassembles in the morning between 7am – 11am for the first of 7 interactive learning sessions over six months. The standard format for each session commences at 7am and includes an informal breakfast & coffee to enable you and the group to reconnect with each other and share how you’ve applied your learnings from the previous session.  This is followed by a formal, structured session on the leadership topic scheduled for that session, delivered by a leader in that field. After the leadership topic session has been delivered, the LDG Chair will facilitate a group discussion with the focus on how this knowledge could be applied in your workplaces, with particular emphasis on the impact it will have on you, your people, and your business.

WHAT WILL THE MONTHLY SESSIONS FOCUS ON?

Session One: “Here We Go….”

This first session of the programme will be facilitated by Chair Simon Whyte. The purpose of the session is for the group to get to know each other and share aspects of themselves and their organisations and what their goals are for their leadership development.  The Chair will give an overview of the programme, the learning process and the peer support groups.  There will be a dinner after this session.

Session Two: “Knowing Myself and the Impact of Me on Others”

It’s key that you understand your current leadership styles and the value you contribute to your organisation.  You’ll gain an up to date understanding of neuroscience research, how to grow greater self-awareness, self-regulation, and emotional resilience.   Knowing and growing your leadership value will enable you to positively increase your sphere of influence, and it will allow you to show great leadership both personally and professionally in your next phase/s of your leadership journey.

Session Three: “Considering Culture” & “Leaders as Coaches and How to Get the Best Out of the People You Lead”

“Considering Culture”
Ensuring you understand how to give your people the best experience by making your organisation more human, and therefore more successful, is a key focus of this session. You’ll be examining the relationship between what is valued in your workplace, your environment, systems, processes, mindsets, and behaviours.   During this session, you’ll get to break down the “bigness” of culture into meaningful and pragmatic understandings, so you make a difference in your organisation’s culture.

“Leaders as Coaches and How to Get the Best Out of the People You Lead”
This practical session shows you how to think and act like a natural coach, and how to develop your people and their performance and productivity through one-on-one coaching and through creating a culture of accountability and high performance in the teams that you lead. You will leave with a toolkit to use with your team plus an increased awareness of the power of your leadership conversations.

Session Four: “When Revolutions Collide”
The way you need to operate in today’s world is forever changing and it’s critical that you learn about the unstoppable forces reshaping the world of business.  Exploring and making sense of what’s happening in your workplaces and the implications of the forces and searching for solutions to the ever-changing challenges you’ll face as a leader is key.  Specifically, you’ll learn to identify and understand ambiguity, complexity, and chaos.

Session Five: “Strategy – Setting and Achieving the Team Game Plan” & “Managing & Leading Change Effectively”
“Setting and Achieving the Team Game Plan”

Participants will explore the use of well proven strategic models to drive the trade-off decisions necessary to set a focused business strategy and to guide its operational implementation. Strategy is about making decisions – especially about what you are not going to do. Executing strategy is about driving and managing change – the hard work starts when the strategy is signed off.

 “Managing & Leading Change Effectively”
As a leader, being aware of how many, and why, so many change initiatives fail to deliver on their promise is critical.  In this session, you’ll get to explore what you’ll need to focus on to lead successful change and how you can support your people to create successful change initiatives.

Session Six: “Leading Everyone to Give the Best Employee Experience” Throughout this session you’ll explore all aspects of your leadership responsibilities to lead and give all employees their best experience, regardless of who they are. In resourcing yourself you will influence your teams and organisation to will follow your lead when you role model your understanding of diversity and inclusion through all you do and say, through your organisations systems, policies, and procedures.  You’ll focus on learning how to embrace all aspects of diversity and inclusion, including Te Ao Māori, and the role of Te Tiriti.

 Session Seven: “Managing Up Effectively”
Working with Boards and others you report to regardless of whether you are currently having direct interactions with a board, it’s important to understand the role of Boards and what their obligations are and what can be expected from a board.  Also, what they would expect from leaders of their organisation.  This session will also explore how to establish and maintain a competent and professional relationship of influence, with whoever you are reporting to.

Session Eight: “Mastering Peak Mental Performance”
The greater our leadership responsibilities are, the more we are ‘giving out’ to a wide range of stakeholders.  That ‘giving out’ can only be sustained when we nourish and take care of ourselves so you can maintain your energy and positive impact as a leader.  That takes great focus at times, and this session will give you awareness and strategies to ensure you can and do have work life balance.

The Wrap: In this Session Eight we will also explore our individual, group, and Programme reflections before closing our monthly sessions.

WHAT ELSE WILL HAPPEN DURING THE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME?

Peer Support Groups
The participants will break into groups of four to form peer support groups.  Each group will be coached in how to use some structured peer support processes.  The value of using these processes is the speedy creation of deeper connections and learnings for all within a short amount of time.
The peer support groups will be encouraged to meet on-line once between each monthly session. It is hoped that these groups will be a continuing legacy after the completion of the leadership development programme.

Weave Events
As members of the wider Weave® community, programme participants will be invited to attend nominated Weave® events during the programme including networking and topical issues lunches and webinars, business breakfasts, and economic updates etc.

“An  absolute game changer and privilege to attend! I have learned a huge  amount through this leadership programme, about leadership theory and  practice, and how much I don’t know! But also, about myself and areas  of strength and definite ‘work-ons’. Learning alongside (and from!) some  amazing new friends. Thanks, Stantec for  the support in lifelong learning and development”
